The Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition is located at 1122 Patapsco Bldg. at M Square, Maryland's largest research park. It is adjacent to the FDA CFSAN Harvey Wiley Building, within walking distance from the College Park Metro (Washington's subway and bus transit system) and is less than two miles from the University of Maryland main campus. The location is just nine miles from downtown Washington, D.C., and approximately 30 miles from both Baltimore and Annapolis. JIFSAN is accessible by the METRO subway system and bus routes, as well as the MARC commuter train.
