The International Conference on Global Food Safety and Antimicrobial Resistance was organized by Hong Kong Polytechnic University and held on November 13 to 16 in Shenzhen, China. China Agriculture University, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment and WHO Western Pacific Regional Office, FDA, JIFSAN and several other organizations have also supported this conference. The goal of the conference was to bring together leading scientists in the areas of food safety and antimicrobial resistance from around the world to share their experiences on enhancing global food safety and combating antimicrobial resistance. More than 400 scientists and students from international, Chinese public health organizations and academic institutes attended the meeting.
Dr. Jianghong Meng, Director of JIFSAN, gave a talk on Shiga toxin-producing E. coli at the conference. He also had a meeting with Prof. Ping-kong Alexander Wai, Vice President for Research and Development, Prof. Wing-tak Wong, Dean of School of Applied Science and Textiles, and other colleagues of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to discuss mutual interests and potential collaborations on food safety research and education.
