Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Students who successfully complete JIFSAN courses will receive 1 CEU for each 10 hours of instruction. Online Courses award the same number of CEU’s as face-to-face courses.

Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) from a competent authority are a tangible measure of the standards of the JIFSAN Food Safety Risk Analysis Professional Development Training Program, and help recognize the accomplishments of students who successfully complete our courses. All JIFSAN courses adhere to the standards established by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), and are granted by the University of Maryland, in the U.S.A.

Many students hold professional licenses or positions that require periodic CEU’s. There is also a growing trend by many employers to require professional development that meets standards like the IACET. Because of this, JIFSAN will provide CEU’s to all participants who successfully complete the courses.

The University of Maryland charges $25 per course for CEUs. Prior to registration, check with your employer or professional organization to see if they will accept these CEU’s. Here is a small sample of the many organizations that are known to accept CEU's that meet the standards of the IACET:

  • American Board of Industrial Hygiene
  • American Nurses Association
  • American Water Works Association
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency
  • Professional Academic Review Council
  • State of California, Department of Health Services, Operator Certification Office
  • State of Indiana, Department of Environmental Management
  • State of Maryland, Department of Education
  • United States Environmental Protection Agency *

* NOTE: CEUs accepted only after review by licensure or training board
